Hi, I am Mohammad Fidakar, a displaced scholar from Afghanistan and a Ph.D. candidate in Economics at Emory University, specializing in applied microeconomics. My research interests lie at the intersection of development economics and political economy, with a focus on forced displacement, the economics of conflict, and social inclusion. I combine qualitative fieldwork and conjoint survey experiments to understand how a single, often non-economic factor triggers forced displacement.
I hold a B.A. in Economics from Balkh University in Afghanistan and a Master of Development Policy (MDP) from KDI School in South Korea. Before joining Emory, I taught undergraduate economics at Ghazni University, where I began my academic career in 2014 and was appointed to lead the university's research center in 2020.
Outside of work, I find joy in photography — which enables me to have a CLOSER LOOK at the beauty of nature — as well as in gardening and playing soccer.
